THE STORY OF RUEN-CHUN

Ruen Chun is a tribute to my father.
Ruen is the traditional name of houses in Thailand, where we started the Home Decoration
Chun is my father's name

I was born in Bueng Kan, the last of the 76 provinces of Thailand located in the northeastern part of Thailand, adjacent to Lao, which is a “haven of immersive cultural experiences and staggering natural beauty” and famous for the quality of its handicraft from bamboo, khla, cotton and fabrics with unique patterns.

After a Bachelor's in marketing, I worked in the hotel industry for many years, mainly in Hua Hin, and started recently to create decoration products using Bueng Kan materials and handicraft products with the spirit of supporting the remote Isan community my family comes from while bringing a modern twist to their ancestral design

A day without a smile and a sum tam is a wasted day :)

YARN WALL ART

Artisans: eLLe - Phornsawan, Founder/Executive Designer.

Material:

Mainly using material from authentic Teak Wood and Cotton Yarn.

Process of pure handicraft:

This Classic Yarn is made by the concept of Ruen Chun's “Simple & Cozy”

where possible to decorate in any shade of all areas.

It takes about a week to create each wall-hanging art piece from the raw material. My hand makes them all, so no two wall arts are the same.

Good for the people:

By working with artisans locally, we help preserve ancient crafts and

support their economic growth.

KHLA CRAFT BAG

Artisans:

One Tambon One Product (OTOP) is a local entrepreneurship stimulus program aimed to support locally made and marketed products of each of Thailand's 7,255 tambons (sub-district)

Material:

100% natural Khla, a herbaceous/ perennial plant with soft texture - native of North Eastern and each part of Thailand. Stretchy, light-weight and extremely strong.

Process of pure craft:

To get the fiber from the Khla plant, OTOP artisans scrape the inner skin out of the bark by using a special handcraft tools.

Once this fiber is obtained, it is split into thin strips and must be dried under the sun for at least 3 days & 3 nights before it is weaved by hand.

Fibers have different colours and patterns depending of the natural environment they come from.

From Khla plants to crafting, it takes about a week to create each piece. Each piece is done by hand, therefore no two bags are the same.

Good for the people:

The knowledge and skill used to make the Khla bags has been passed down through generations. By working with them, we help preserve an ancient craft and we support their economic growth.

Material:

Authentic Lai, is a plant with a soft texture - a native of the North Eastern part of Thailand. Stretchy, light-weight and extremely strong. Fibres have different colours and patterns depending on their natural environment.

Process of pure handicraft:

Each piece of Lai is sun-dried for a week. Then, they are assembled on a metal or brass ring (size may vary) using pure organic cotton or woollen thread. Each piece is completed with a handmade cotton ribbon. While Lai is usually used for mattresses, I decided to give them a special twist and bring them into your household in a different way.

After agreeing on the design with the customer, it takes about one week to create each wall art piece. This Wall Art is based on the Ruen Chun "Simple & Cozy" concept to bring a unique touch  of warmth to all types of areas of your house. My hand makes them all, so no two wall arts are the same.
